The Masmak Fort (Arabic: قصر المصمك‎, Battle of period RiyadhQaṣr al-Maṣmak), also called the Masmak Fortress or Masmak Palace, is a clayand mudbrick fort in the old city of Riyadh, situated in the modern-day Deira district. Built in 1865 by ‘Abdurrahman ibn Sulaiman under the Emirate of Jabal Shammar, The fortress played an integral role in the Unification of Saudi Arabia, with the Battle of Riyadh, one of the most important conflicts of the Saudi unification, taking place in the fort.Since 1995, the fortress has been converted into a museum showcasing one of the most important landmarks of Saudi heritage.

Al-Masmak was built as the headquarters of the Ibn Rashid garrison around 1312 AH, and it continued to play its role as a fortress in which Riyadh affairs were administered until it was stormed and seized by King Abdulaziz upon entering Riyadh, and King Abdulaziz used the palace as a warehouse of weapons and ammunition for two years, then it became a prison after that until It has been converted into an archaeological and historical landmark located in the heart of Riyadh.

There are no accounts or sayings that confirm that King Abdulaziz used the palace as a residence or a seat of government. The king rebuilt the old palace in Safat around the year 1330 AH and took it as a seat of government and residence until he moved to the Al Murabba complex.
